The University of Granada

UNIVERSITY

The city of Granada is home to the University of Granada (UGR), founded by Charles I of Spain and V of Germany in 1531. With almost 500 years of history, the UGR is one of the most historic and prestigious universities in Spain, where it has been named one of the two best universities in the country.

While the UGR’s main headquarters are located in the city of Granada, it also has facilities and laboratories throughout the province. It is also the only European university with locations in both Europe and Africa, thanks to its campuses in the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla. The University has more than 56,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, a further 10,000 students undertaking complementary courses, and more than 3,700 teaching staff.

In addition, there are more than 2,550 administrative and support staff (PAS) who play a fundamental role in the smooth running of the institution, making it the largest employer in the province of Granada.

The University of Granada is a European leader in the Erasmus+ university exchange programme, with the highest number of places requested and on offer.

The University of Granada offers more than 90 undergraduate degree programmes on its different campuses spread throughout the city. The Fuentenueva and Cartuja campuses host the majority of sports competitions, along with the Health Campus, the Aynadamar Campus, and the City Centre Campus.
